Position Overview

The Lab Informatics Specialist supports Rhyz Analytical Labs by managing, optimizing, and supporting laboratory informatics systems that enable accurate data capture, analysis, and reporting. This mid-level role works independently on day-to-day system support while collaborating closely with analytical scientists, Quality, and IT to ensure laboratory systems are reliable, compliant, and aligned with operational needs. A strong customer service mindset and innovative approach to problem solving are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, support, and optimize laboratory informatics systems used within Rhyz Analytical Labs, including ELN (IDBS), CDS (Waters Empower), and FileMaker.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for laboratory informatics issues, enhancements, and user support, providing responsive and customer-focused service.
  • Configure workflows, user access, data structures, integrations, and reporting to support analytical laboratory operations.
  • Troubleshoot system issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop innovative, practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Coordinate issue resolution with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Support system validation, change control, and documentation activities in regulated environments.
  • Ensure data integrity, system security, and compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.
  • Develop scripts, queries, or small applications to support data processing, automation, and system integration.
  • Train laboratory staff on informatics systems, workflows, and best practices.
  • Participate in system upgrades, new implementations, and integrations with enterprise systems.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and user documentation related to laboratory informatics systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical, or related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Information Systems, Computer Science).
  • 3–6 years of experience supporting laboratory informatics systems in an analytical or regulated environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ELN (IDBS), CDS (Waters Empower), and/or FileMaker.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and spreadsheet-based reporting.
  • Programming experience with Java, SQL, and Groovy, including development of scripts, queries, or integrations supporting laboratory systems.
  • Strong understanding of analytical laboratory workflows and laboratory data management.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with the ability to effectively support and communicate with laboratory users at varying technical levels.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills, including the ability to think creatively, propose improvements, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a regulated environment (GMP, GLP, GxP).
  • Experience with computerized system validation (CSV) and system lifecycle management.
  • Experience integrating laboratory systems with enterprise platforms.
  • Prior experience supporting analytical, R&D, or quality laboratories.
