Position Start Date: June 1, 2027

Required Degree: 

Master of Music (MM) in Music Education or Instrumental Conducting

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience: 

  • A record of successful work with athletic bands

  • A record of successful work teaching/conducting concert bands

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • A record of successful collegiate-level athletic band teaching is preferred

  • A record of success in secondary school band directing experience is preferred

Duties/Expectations: 

  • Rehearse and direct the BYU Cougar Marching Band and ROC (basketball) Bands

  • Rehearse and conduct a University Band in the Winter semester

  • Administer the activities, personnel, and instrument/uniform inventory of a large university athletic band program

  • Teach Marching Band Techniques and other related courses in the School of Music based upon skills and experience

  • Serve as an ambassador of BYU and the School of Music

  • Recruit for the BYU Band Program

  • Work collaboratively with the BYU Director of Bands in the administration of the BYU band program

  • Serve on department, college, and university committees as assigned

  • Post-season travel for athletic events

  • Perform for campus events as needed
