This position is responsible for advancing the Nation’s environmental initiatives by managing the recycling program, including the collection, transportation, and proper handling of recyclable materials. The technician will assist with field activities such as water, soil, and air sampling to support ongoing environmental monitoring initiatives. Additional responsibilities include helping with the cleanup and disposal of illegal dump sites, as well as maintaining the Quapaw Nation composting site to ensure safe, clean, and effective operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety minded, and committed to protecting and enhancing the environmental quality of the Quapaw Nation. Essential Job Functions: Assist with monthly water sampling, soil sampling, and air monitoring activities. Collect and transport recyclable materials from office recycling bins and the stationary cardboard bin, utilizing a truck and trailer as needed. Maintain and operate recycling trailers and related equipment. Assist in public outreach events and community engagement activities related to environmental programs. Identify and assist with the disposal of illegal dump sites. Maintain the composting site and support composting operations. Assist with the preparation of monthly recycling reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Non essential Job Functions: May attend professional meetings, pertinent workshops and serve on organization wide or professional committees. Will be asked to attend specific training courses and certain environmental related conferences.QualificationsJob Specifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Able to lift at least 50 pounds comfortably. Demonstrates the capacity to follow all safety procedures when operating equipment and performing manual tasks. Communicates effectively and appropriately with community members. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to participate in job related training as requested by the supervisor. Experience using Microsoft Office programs. Proficient in maneuvering recycling trailers of various sizes. Capable of operating heavy composting equipment. Maintain a current driver’s license in good standing and qualify under the Quapaw Nation Motor Vehicle Policy. Experience: Experience in an environmental or related applicable field is preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. 40 hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. This position requires exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, dampness, and other inclement conditions. The position requires routine physical labor, such as lifting, vehicle operation, equipment operation, and participation in field sampling activities.
