The Opportunity 

The job of the Quality Control Technician 1 involves following standard operating procedures to test kit components, verifying that they pass quality standards. The activities of a Quality Control Technician 1 include following Standard Operating Procedures, verifying labels, testing, screening, and inspecting raw materials and kit components. The Quality Control Technician 1 reports to the Quality Control Manager.

Key Responsibilities 

Perform predispense and final quality control testing

Perform incoming chemical and non-chemical raw material testing

Follow Standard Operating Procedures

Perform in-process testing of membrane devices

Perform verification of coded foil labels

Work with biological samples

Utilize good aseptic technique in the lab

Report quality problems to manager/designee

Manage and record component retentions

Perform water testing for both Blacksburg and Radford facilities

Stay up to date with required readings

Comply with all safety regulations

Calibrate pH meter and conductivity meter

Perform stability testing

Perform mathematical calculations

Test all kit components per product release standards (bioburden, functionality, physical characteristics)

Tools and Equipment Used

Microsoft Office Suite

Basic Lab Equipment (pH meter, conductivity meter, scales and balances, pipetters)

ELISA plate reader

Qualifications and Experience 

  • B.A or B.S Degree in a scientific field

    OR Associate’s degree + 3 years of experience

Location and Work Policy

TechLab maintains a climate controlled environment for the job of Quality Control Technician 1. The Quality Control Technician 1 can expect to work with human pathogens. A typical workweek is Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30 or 8:30 to 5:00. Overtime is occasionally necessary with or without advance notice.
