Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Engineer II position is to provide technical support and direction for remedial activities at DOD, FUDS, NPL, and NPL-Caliber sites in order to ensure compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations, as well as to manage the operation and maintenance phase of the site. During the cleanup process the Environmental Engineer must ensure the application of sound technical practices and ultimately the protection of public health and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical support for site investigation activities, including the assessment of the type and degree of contamination, evaluation of the risk to public health and the environment, and assessment of the need for remedial action.
• Provide timely and detailed review of engineering drawings and specifications for the remedial design and implementation of remedial actions, ensuring compliance with Applicable or Relevant and Appropriate Requirements (ARAR) and good engineering practices.
• Oversee US EPA and contractor removal and remedial action activities, review removal and remedial plans to ensure that sound investigation methodologies and treatment technologies are used, ensure that ARARs are followed, and verify that appropriate cleanup levels are met.
• Provide technical review and oversight of operation and maintenance activities, including performance of site-specific Five-Year Reviews.

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
