Sunbird (www.sunbirddcim.com), an established leader in Data Center Infrastructure Management, is looking for a Lead Development Operations Engineer to provide their expertise in Kubernetes\OpenShift and Containerization as we scale out our solution. Our award-winning web-based solutions help our customers understand and manage energy consumption, environmental conditions, and assets in their facilities.

Current Application Stack: Angular, Tomcat, Rails, ActiveMQ, Redis, and PostgreSQL

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Lead both the migration of our solution to containers and the overall design and implementation for container orchestrators such as OpenShift, Kubernetes and Amazon EKS
  • Create and maintain docker files, manifest files, and HELM Charts for different environments\orchestrators
  • Manage builds and deployments
  • Deploy new clusters from scratch and upgrade\maintain existing ones.
  • Lead junior team members effectively
  • Work closely with our cross-functional team to achieve scalability and reliability objectives
  • Provide support as our customers roll the solution out to their environments
  • Effectively troubleshoot operating system issues, configuration problems, authentication errors, and related software defects
  • Automate operations such as backup\restores, deployments, and upgrades.
  • Follow security best practices
  • Identify potential technical obstacles and come up with solutions
  • Evaluate third party technologies to make recommendations for architecture roadmap
  • Ability to keep up with industry trends and innovation.
  • Follow Sunbird’s software development process to participate in full software development life cycle

Qualifications

  • Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator, Certified Kubernetes Administrator or similar
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience on Kubernetes or OpenShift and have been involved all facets of configuration and deployments in prior positions
  • Expert on Containerization (Docker preferred)
  • Experience in Continuous Integration / Continuous Development (CI/CD) (Jenkins/Nexus/GitHub)
  • 7+ years of professional experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Creative, industrious, self-managed
  • Excels when working as part of a small, highly skilled, agile team
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field

Desired knowledge and skills

A candidate with a mix of the following experiences will be at an advantage:

  • Experience in Java, Tomcat and database configurations
    • Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration
    • Knowledge in the administration and performance tuning of web/application servers (e.g. Tomcat, Puma, Itsio, NGINX)
  • Development experience in Perl, Ruby, and\or Java
  • AWS
    • Experience maintaining servers, IT infrastructure and other equipment in a server room
  • Experience in the day-to-day operations of a data center environment, particularly as it relates to planning and infrastructure management
