A Successful Bartender:

• Creates consistently excellent cocktails and beverages while maintaining a warm, polished guest experience.

• Knows the menu thoroughly and confidently guides guests through cocktails, wine, beer, food, and non-alcoholic offerings.

• Takes ownership of evening readiness, anticipates guest needs, communicates product issues early, and embraces cross-training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Food and Beverage Preparation and Service

• Prepare Alcove for evening service, including bar setup, stocking, beverage mise en place, garnishes, food prep, cleanliness, and guest-facing presentation.

• Prepare cocktails, wine, beer, aperitifs, and non-alcoholic beverages to established recipes and standards, including proper pours, batching, garnishing, glassware, and equipment care.

• Support food service and, once trained, prepare espresso, coffee, and other coffee beverages as needed.

Guest Service and Menu Knowledge

• Maintain strong knowledge of the full Alcove menu and make thoughtful recommendations based on guest preferences.

• Welcome hotel guests and neighborhood visitors warmly, learn preferences when possible, and look for opportunities to create a personal experience.

• Provide helpful guidance about The Gables and Raleigh while remaining attentive, exercising sound judgment, and connecting guests with additional support when needed.

Cash Handling, Inventory and Product Management

• Accurately enter orders, process payments, and follow established cash-handling procedures.

• Monitor spirits, wine, beer, mixers, food, coffee, serviceware, and supply levels and communicate shortages or quality concerns before they affect service.

• Receive, label, rotate, store, and organize food and beverage products according to established procedures.

• Communicate openly with guests, teammates, and management about service flow, responsible alcohol service, and anything that may affect the guest experience.

• Support special events, private gatherings, catering, and teammates across Alcove as business needs change.

• Participate actively in cross-training and leave Alcove organized, stocked, and ready for the next service.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Must meet all applicable legal requirements for serving alcoholic beverages in North Carolina.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to follow established recipes while maintaining quality, presentation, speed, and sound judgment across varying service volumes.

• Warm, confident guest-service skills and the ability to learn menus, assess preferences, and make recommendations naturally.

• Working knowledge of food handling and sanitation, with the ability to independently manage bar setup, closing tasks, priorities, and product levels.

• Dependable attendance and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.

• Willingness to learn Alcove’s coffee program is required; barista, catering, event, or relevant wine and spirits education is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Continuous use of hands and arms, including repetitive motions associated with beverage and food preparation.

• Ability to bend, reach, lift, twist, and safely handle glassware, bar and coffee equipment, hot liquids, and cases of inventory.
