Description of Work

This position is located at the NC Department of Transportation Central Warehouse.

Position is responsible for the daily receiving, stocking, pulling and packaging of inventoried materials for distribution and resupply to NCDOT field units. The position requires considerable thinking, analysis and judgment when comparing receipt documentation to materials delivered, proper stocking, and issuing documentation to pulled materials as well as packaging of materials for distribution. The work environment is an un-air-conditioned warehouse. The position is exposed to heat, cold and dust. The position requires physical effort as found in normal warehouse operations when manually handling materials of various sizes and weights. Forklift operation is a requirement of this position. Position may require overtime during adverse weather conditions to ensure NCDOT field units are supplied. Assist with annual physical inventory preparation and actual counting of inventory. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC08 $39,244 - $68,679

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience operating various types of forklifts such as sit down and stand-up lifts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing and emails (Outlook) to internal and external customers as well as warehouse management and personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand computer generated documents necessary for the performance of the position
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and work with vendors and other NCDOT personnel with courtesy and intact when performing job duties
  • Knowledge of general inventory principles and the procedures, methods and practices of the Central Inventory warehouse or the ability to learn these principles, procedures, methods and practices

Minimum Education and Experience
