POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Custodian will assist and be responsible for keeping the departments and building in Pala in a clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, cleaning and restocking bathrooms, washing walls and glass, and removing trash.  Duties may include helping with building set up and break down for Pala events. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Cleaning restrooms and restocking paper, soap, and other supplies.
  • Performs routine maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Dust furniture, walls, office machines, and equipment.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
  • Notify management of the need for major repairs.
  • Performs building set-up, including table and chair set-up and breakdown, for Tribal functions as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of the operation and care of equipment, tools, and supplies related to the care of buildings and materials.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communications.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Prefer High School graduate or equivalent education (GED) or related fields.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
  • Must be able to pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Must have a valid class “C” driver’s license in good standing.
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.

All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Employee Handbook of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
