Certified Medication Aide Job Description

Position Summary

The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for administering approved medications and treatments to residents in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. This position supports the nursing team by promoting resident safety, accurate documentation, and compassionate care in a skilled nursing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments only as permitted by certification, licensure requirements, physician orders, and facility policy.
  • Verify the correct resident, medication, dosage, route, and time before administration.
  • Accurately document medication administration, refusals, omissions, resident response, and other required information in the Medication Administration Record or electronic health record.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition, side effects, adverse reactions, or medication-related concerns and report findings promptly to the licensed nurse.
  • Maintain medication carts, storage areas, and supplies in a clean, organized, and secure manner.
  • Follow infection control, safety, privacy, and resident rights practices at all times.
  • Communicate respectfully with residents, families, nursing staff, physicians, pharmacy providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Comply with all facility policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Medication Aide permit/certification in good standing as required by the state.
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures, documentation standards, infection control, and resident rights.
  • Must meet all background check, health screening, and employment eligibility requirements. Work Schedule

Must be available to work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to meet resident care and facility staffing needs.
