Reports to: Controller

Department: Accounting / Finance

Position: Exempt, Full-Time; Monday–Friday, standard business hours, with additional time as needed for month-end, year-end, inventory, audit, and other accounting deadlines.

Work Location: On-site at our Grand Blanc location. This is not a remote position.

Compensation: Starting pay is determined based on relevant experience and qualifications.

The Opportunity

Solucient is looking for a hands-on Accounting Team Lead / Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our accounting department and develop our accounting team.

Reporting to the Controller, you will oversee daily accounting activities, reconciliations, month-end execution, inventory accounting and controls, and team performance. We're looking for a leader who understands the details, takes ownership of results, develops people, solves problems, and continually looks for ways to improve the work.

You'll also help ensure Accounting is known throughout Solucient as a responsive, dependable, and solutions-oriented business partner.

What You'll Own

Daily Accounting Operations

Lead the daily execution of the accounting department, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, journal entries, supporting documentation, and recurring accounting processes. Maintain visibility into deadlines and outstanding issues and take ownership of getting problems resolved.

Team Leadership

Provide day-to-day leadership to the accounting team by setting clear expectations, coaching and developing employees, providing feedback, recognizing strong performance, and creating accountability.

We want a leader who helps people think, solve problems, and take ownership rather than becoming the answer to every question.

Inventory Accounting & Controls

Oversee accounting processes supporting inventory transactions and work closely with operational teams and the Inventory Coordinator to reconcile inventory, investigate discrepancies, support cycle counts and physical inventories, and address the root causes of recurring issues.

Month-End & Year-End

Coordinate the team's responsibilities for month-end and year-end close, establish deadlines, review work, identify unusual or unresolved items, and keep the Controller informed of significant issues.

Your goal will be to make the close process increasingly organized, predictable, accurate, and efficient.

Processes & Controls

Identify manual, repetitive, inefficient, or error-prone processes and work with the team and Controller to improve them. Strengthen controls, document and standardize processes, and identify opportunities to use technology and automation.

The goal isn't simply to keep Accounting running. It's to make Accounting better.

Partnership Across Solucient

Build strong relationships across the organization and help others understand accounting requirements and the financial impact of business decisions.

You'll be expected to protect the integrity of the business while being responsive, practical, and solutions-oriented.

Your Partnership with the Controller

This role owns the daily accounting operation so the Controller doesn't have to manage it.

You'll keep the Controller informed of significant accounting issues, inventory concerns, missed deadlines, control risks, unusual transactions, and team concerns-and bring your thinking and potential solutions.

You'll also support financial reporting, audits, tax preparation, system implementations, and other Accounting and Finance initiatives as needed.

The Solucient Way

At Solucient, how we contribute is as important as what we accomplish. Our leaders are expected to:

  • Own the Outcome – Take responsibility, follow through, and solve problems.
  • Do the Details Well – Value accuracy, discipline, and quality.
  • Make the Team Better – Coach, teach, provide feedback, and create accountability.
  • Communicate Clearly – Set expectations, surface concerns early, and explain the why.
  • Lead Through Service – Be responsive, professional, and solutions-oriented.
  • Improve the Work – Solve root causes, simplify processes, and use technology effectively.
  • One Solucient – Think beyond your department and make decisions that are best for Solucient.
  • What We're Looking For

    The strongest candidates will bring:

    • Progressive accounting or financial operations experience.
    • Experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or directing accounting professionals.
    • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, AP, AR, and month-end close.
    • Working knowledge of inventory accounting and controls.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience with accounting or ERP systems and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accounting teammates.
    • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential information.
    • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant accounting experience.

    Who Will Thrive Here

  • You'll be a strong fit if you take ownership, care about accuracy, enjoy developing people, communicate problems early, and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves when the team needs help.

You look for root causes rather than temporary fixes, bring potential solutions when raising problems, and enjoy improving systems and processes.

Most importantly, you believe Accounting should be both a strong control function and a great internal business partner.

    What Success Looks Like

Success means the daily accounting operation runs reliably, financial and inventory information can be trusted, month-end is organized and predictable, deadlines are met, and problems are identified and solved early.

It also means the accounting team becomes more capable, confident, and accountable; processes become simpler and stronger; and other departments see Accounting as a responsive and trusted partner.

  • Why This Role Matters

This role has an opportunity to make an impact well beyond accounting transactions. You'll strengthen Solucient's financial and inventory processes, develop people, improve how work gets done, and create capacity for the Controller to focus on financial leadership, planning, reporting, risk management, and the future of the business.

If you're an accounting professional who wants to lead people, own outcomes, improve processes, and make a visible impact on a growing organization, we'd like to hear from you.
