Job Summary:
General Service for the Press Department is responsible for catching, handling, and inspecting stamped automotive parts as they exit press machines. This role plays a critical part in maintaining production flow and ensuring parts meet quality standards. The position involves close attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is on 2nd shift, 3pm-11pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stand at the end of press machines to catch freshly stamped parts safely and efficiently.
- Perform visual and manual inspection of parts for defects such as cracks, bends, burrs, or surface flaws.
- Sort and separate acceptable parts from non-conforming ones based on quality criteria.
- Stack or place approved parts in designated containers or racks following handling procedures.
- Communicate with press operators and quality personnel regarding part quality or equipment concerns.
- Record and report defective parts or recurring issues to the supervisor or quality team.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, disposing of scrap and debris properly.
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety guidelines related to press operations.
- Support press changeovers by preparing materials and assisting operators as needed.
- Participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities in the press shop.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Strong attention to detail and quality awareness.
- Comfortable working around heavy machinery, noise, and repetitive motion tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
- Familiarity with basic quality inspection tools (e.g., gauges, calipers) a plus.
- Experience in metal stamping or press operations is a strong advantage.
- Basic understanding of press shop safety practices and machine operation support.
Work Environment:
- Automotive manufacturing plant with exposure to laser machinery, metalworking equipment, noise, and heat.
- Required to wear PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, arm guards, hi-vis belt and steel-toe boots.
- Shift work, overtime, and weekend availability may be necessary based on production schedules.
