Position Overview:
Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking an Overnight Residential Youth Counselor to work as part of a team providing supervision and trauma informed care of children within the residential program. What You Will Do:
- Maintain vigilant supervision and nurture children through one-on-one communication and care.
- Assist children with hygiene, diet, and getting ready for school.
- Document required messages and complete daily reports.
- Discipline as needed, respond to aggressive behavior, and maintain group order.
- Screen, assess, and manage children’s pain. Contact RN or emergency 911 when necessary.
- Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.
- Assist in keeping unit clean and orderly. Bag and launder when necessary.

Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
- Experience: 1-2 years related experience and/or training
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Residential environment focused on care of children with behavioral issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
