Position Overview:
Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a teacher assistant to assist in providing supervision and instruction ensuring a safe and therapeutic classroom environment for all children. What You Will Do:

  • Student Engagement: Assist in conducting classroom activities, preparing instructional materials, providing instruction, review, and practice of skills taught by the Classroom Teacher with individual and small groups of students. Assist in implementing treatment plan and individual education plan methods specific to each child. Assume Classroom Teacher’s duties in his/her absence.
  • Student Records: Assist with maintaining classroom and/or student records and documentation and contributes data for progress notes and individual treatment plans.
  • Student Relationships: Nurture children through one-on-one communication and care and maintain vigilant supervision. Reinforce instructional/behavioral objectives as needed to maintain an effective classroom learning environment.
  • Professional Growth: Provide leadership in efforts to improve the school, student learning and behavior, social skills, and safety.
  • Compliance: Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families. Follow Agency and School Policies and Procedures. Support of Agency Goals.
  • Travel between two campuses
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Experience: Working in an education setting or childcare setting referred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Classroom environment focused on care of children with behavioral issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
