Our premier Reserve, Vermejo, is currently offering local high school students a structured, short-term opportunity to explore multiple career paths while gaining real-world exposure to operations, hospitality, and natural resource management.


ABOUT THE POSITION

The Student Intern – Multi-Department Experience Program is a one-week, hands-on learning opportunity designed for high school students. Interns will rotate through multiple departments across Vermejo Reserve, which may include Hospitality, Operations, Maintenance, and Natural Resources.


This program is intended to provide educational exposure, not employment training for a single role. Students will assist with supervised, entry-level tasks and observe professional workflows across departments.


Interns will work under direct supervision at all times and will not perform hazardous duties or operate restricted equipment in accordance with applicable state and federal labor laws for minors.


You will also be responsible for: 

  • Participating in supervised rotations across multiple departments.
  • Assisting team members with age-appropriate, non-hazardous tasks.
  • Observing daily operations in hospitality, conservation, and facilities functions.
  • Following all safety rules, procedures, and supervisor instructions.
  • Demonstrating professionalism, punctuality, and respectful behavior.
  • Participating in brief daily learning check-ins or discussions.
  • Supporting general team needs as assigned within legal minor work restrictions

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Must be currently enrolled in high school (Raton High School preferred) 
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a supervised team environment 
  • Interest in learning about hospitality, conservation, or operations careers 
  • Reliable attendance for the full 1-week program

Preferred:

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn 
  • Positive attitude and curiosity about outdoor and hospitality industries

YOUR QUALITIES

  • You demonstrate responsibility and professionalism in a structured environment 
  • You are comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor settings 
  • You are able to follow instructions and work as part of a team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

On a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Stand, walk, and move throughout indoor and outdoor environments 
  • Perform light physical tasks under supervision 
  • Be exposed to varying weather conditions typical of a mountain ranch environment

On an occasional basis, you can be expect to sit. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
This position does not include exposure to hazardous materials or restricted duties for minors. All tasks will comply with applicable child labor laws in New Mexico.

You may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
