Tooling II – Reading, PA

Shift Hours: 6:30am – 3:00pm, Monday thru Friday.

 

 

Performs tooling repairs to existing and new tooling using surface grinding, milling, CNC and EDM equipment as necessary. Troubleshoot tooling related molding issues and suggest cost effective repairs. Clean and perform mold and tooling preventative maintenance. Employees may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Knows injection molding process and tooling, including mold disassembly, assembly, insert configurations, and manifold.
  • Assists with injection molding setup, and processing of machines as needed.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. 
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as milling machines, CNC milling centers, lathes, radial drill press, surface grinders, and band saws. 
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.  
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-balance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. 
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. 
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. 
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. 
  • Polish surface tooling to required SPI and drawing specifications. 
  • Assist in mold cleaning and troubleshooting of molding issues. Develop repair plan and suggest tooling replacement. 
  • Operate forklift, cranes, sling, hoists, and other equipment as needed.
  • Complete forms, disposition changes, label chemicals, and complete any other necessary paperwork.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated. 
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. 
  • Work in other work centers as production needs require.
  • Perform all work procedures in accordance with safety standards.
  • Perform all work procedures according to established Quality Management & Environmental Management Systems.

 

Essential Skills: 

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Diploma from a relevant High School Vocational Program or a two-year degree from a technical college; and two to four years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OTHER: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. ANSI Y14.5M training. Tow motor Certification, Overhead Crane Training.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.        Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.        Mastery of geometry, and trigonometry.  Must be able to use precision measuring equipment.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
