Toolroom Technician
Hours are 6:30am – 3:00pm Monday thru Friday.
With general supervision, the Toolroom Technician will shop equipment to fabricate and build thermoform tooling that produces heavy gauge and thin gauge parts for several different markets that Brentwood provides for. The Toolroom Technician will also fabricate components for production equipment as needed to keep production operating. Employees may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
Essential Responsibilities:
- Focus on, and mastery of one or more areas of building tooling, for light/heavy gauge thermoforming, and tooling for punch press operations and progressive punch & dies.
- Performs required manual machining to aid in the building of sample and production tooling.
- Refers to senior team members and peers to secure process of make and build.
- Assembles prototype and production tooling.
- Polishes and vents all required vacuum holes according to the engineering specifications for prototype and production tooling.
- Performs routine maintenance on Tool Room equipment.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished tooling for work pieces, and determine sequence of operations, and setup requirements for successful completion to print and communicated requirements.
- Follows all work instructions, shop orders and forms. Reads blueprints and uses precision measuring devices in conjunction with Engineering to meet customer requirements.
- Assist production in modifying or repair tooling to help keep production running.
- Maintain the inventory and storage of all raw plastic materials. Works with Customer Satisfaction, Production Control, and the Tooling Supervisor regarding specific job requirements.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area. Ensures the correct storage systems for prototypes, sample dies, raw materials, plugs, pug assists, and other necessary accessories.
Essential Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, two Years previous machine shop experience or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
- Basic ability to calculate figures utilizing drawings dimensions.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to read measuring equipment including but not limited to; calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measure, hole gauges, depth gauges, etc.
