Position Title: Technician I – Met Lab

Job Summary: 

Prepares samples for analysis or examination and performs a limited range of basic metallurgical services under direct supervision of the Group Leader. Conducts mechanical and magnetic tests using standard equipment including hardness testing, tensile testing, resistivity, and other routine evaluations. Performs metallographic testing using etchants, polishing tools, and standard metallographic equipment. Collects and records test data, supports production needs, completes assigned duties, and participates in special projects as required.
This position may be located in Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Prepare samples for metallurgical evaluation.
  • Perform mechanical and magnetic tests (e.g., hardness, tension/tensile, resistivity).
  • Conduct metallographic tests using etchants, polishing, and standard equipment.
  • Collect, document, and record test data accurately.
  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Work in any of the following areas depending on assignment: Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.

Position Requirements:

Education and/or Training:

  • High school diploma required.

Other Technical Knowledge:

  • Elementary understanding of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgical and laboratory equipment.
