PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
At NCCDI we subscribe to the Standards of Ethical Behavior as outlined in the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. It is expected that all employees become familiar with the code and use it as a model for ethical and professional behavior.
SUMMARY
Plans and facilitates center-based curriculum and overall center-based practice. Directly supervises center staff and ensures that the goals and objectives of the center are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Build responsive relationships, plan and implement an appropriate program that fulfills all the
requirement’s as outlined in Head Start Performance Standards as related to EHS.
2. Oversee Day-to-Day operations of Center.
3. Assist in the recruitment and selection of center staff.
4. Recruit volunteers including classroom and other agency activities in order to assist NCCDI’s efforts in meeting Head Start non-federal share requirement.
5. In the classroom, supervise center staff, parents, volunteers and substitutes, performs staff appraisals.
6. Relates to high risk families and their children. Develops communications skills to ensure appropriate quality services to parents and staff. Develops relationships with families and encourages them to participate in the program.
7. Recognize and respect parent’s values and support dual language learning, while being culturally sensitive to all children and families.
8. Maintain and reinforce confidentiality in all areas affecting staff, volunteers, children, parents and community among, staff volunteers, parents, children and the community.
9. Oversee that the Teachers complete all required documentation and assessments in the areas of social, physical, cognitive, and behavioral developmental areas by required deadlines.
10. Work with staff to ensure that children are referred as needed based on screening results
11. Oversee that the Teachers inform parents of their child’s development ensuring that each family receives two (2) home visits and two (2) conferences, and is encouraged to participate in curriculum planning, goal development, collect portfolio documents to show growth in the development of children.
12. Ensure that appropriate accommodations for children with special needs are made and that each child is included fully into center operations.
13. Oversee the planning and implementation of the TCEHS developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment for the classroom.
14. Ensure implementation of classroom curriculum by using a systematic approach that includes both training and monitoring.
15. Regularly observe classroom operations, review lesson plans, observations, portfolios and any other pertinent material.
16. Provide periodic reports regarding the center-based components of the program to the Supervisor.
17. Provide Home Visits as needed and/or required.
18. Ensure that detailed and accurate records of tracking and monitoring related to all operations are executed accurately within established deadlines.
19. Monitor to ensure that Performance Standards, licensing regulations, curriculum objectives and the best practice standards are met.
20. As a mandated reporter assure that policies and procedures for reporting suspected child abuse are followed.
21. Maintain a safe environment for children, staff and volunteers and to report any known safety problems to Supervisor.
22. Conduct parent and staff trainings on topics relevant to child development, environments, classroom management, licensing regulations, monthly parent meetings, etc.
23. Develop a strong understanding of community resources available to children and families within Tehama County.
24. Serve as a cross-component team player within NCCDI in order to ensure integrated and comprehensive and transitional services for families and children.
25. Ensure that each classroom is well-stocked with needed equipment and supplies
26. Conduct inventory of classroom and facility equipment on an annual basis as instructed by Chief Fiscal Officer.
27. Submit non-federal share documentation to fiscal department in a timely manner.
28. Continues personal professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and classes to maintain required certifications and licenses as required by the State Commission of Teacher Credentialing and/or by the Office of Head Start.
29. Ensure regular communication with families regarding screenings, assessments, and surveys in order to provide needed information regarding medical, psychological, and social services as needed and in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.
30. Partner with the families on assigned caseload to identify child and family needs and appropriate ways of meeting those needs through family goals and referrals.
31. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
1. One year experience in classroom facilitation and management.
2. One year supervisory experience.
3. Ability to speak read and write English at a sufficient level to perform the job.
4. A current negative TB test and a statement of good health from a physician are required as a condition of employment.
5. Ability to pass criminal record clearance and Child Abuse Index.
6. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
7. Must have a genuine interest in children and families.
8. Must have the ability to relate to low-income families and their needs.
9. Must be able to serve children with Special-Needs in a full-inclusion classroom.
10. Must work cooperatively as a member of a team.
