Registered Nurse - Acute Care/Emergency Department

Status:  Full Time – Non-Exempt

Reports to:  Acute Care/ED Clinical Supervisor

Purpose and Scope of Position

This position is responsible for directing and participating in the provision of nursing care to the patients of Beartooth Billings Clinic. This position plans, directs, controls, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with standards of evidence-based practice and facility policies and procedures.  Registered Nursing staff may be assigned the responsibilities of the RN House Supervisor to coordinate the management of clinical activities of the facility during their assigned shift so that optimum quality of patient care is delivered in a cost-effective manner. 

This position interacts with the Clinical and Multi-disciplinary team members to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational. and spiritual needs of the patients and families.

Supervisory Responsibilities

•    The House Supervisor is authorized to make decisions for the nursing department in the absence of Acute Care/ED Nursing Leadership Team.  The House Supervisor will escalate urgent matters through the appropriate chain of command (Provider On-Call, Nursing Leadership, Administrator On-Duty, etc.) as appropriate.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

•    Current RN license in the State of Montana or current multi-state license with the ability to practice in all compact states.

•    Healthcare provider CPR, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

•    ACLS, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

•    PALS, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

•    TNCC, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire for full time and part time staff.

Preferred Qualifications

•    TNCC will be optional for per diem staff members in coordination with Acute Care / ED Manager.

•    2-3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse required for House Supervisor duties.

•    Professional conduct, patience and tact dealing with difficult situations with co-workers, patients, and visitors. 

•    Requires the ability to deal with patients with acute, chronic, and complex disease processes and those who are dying. 

•    Resourcefulness in dealing with simple to moderate complexity. 

•    Requires ability to prioritize duties with assistance of nursing personnel.

Working Conditions

Schedule/Conditions

•    May be required to work varying hours to meet business needs including varying shifts, weekends, and holidays, and participate in the on-call schedule.

•    Work may be performed in a normal patient care environment in Acute Care, Skilled Swing Bed and ED with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, or extremes of temperature. 

Physical Demands

•    Lift, push, pull, and move in excess of 50 pounds unassisted.

•    Requires extensive standing and walking.

•    Requires frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

Blood Borne Pathogen Category    

•    Category I:  Tasks that involve exposure to blood or body fluids or tissues.

Airborne Contaminant Category  

•    Category I:  Chemical:  Performing tasks where airborne chemical contaminants are present without the availability/benefit of engineering controls.  This job may require use of respiratory protection which will require respirator fit testing and medical clearance to wear a respirator.
