About the role


Are you passionate about design and ready to turn ideas into reality?

We’re on the lookout for a forward-thinking Structural Designer to join our North Cluster Design & Innovation team at DS Smith. Based at our Featherstone packaging site, you’ll help bring innovative packaging concepts to life for our FMCG, e-Commerce and specialty clients.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in creating precise CAD drawings, mock-ups, and prototypes using industry-standard design tools that exceed customer expectations and boost operational efficiency. You’ll be working closely with our Sales and Design teams to ensure the seamless delivery of custom solutions that delight our clients every day.

What you’ll do

  • Overseeing and coordinating all customer related activities, 

  • Promoting technical best practice across accounts and between functions including commercial, design, manufacturing, quality, support services, suppliers and customer operations

  • Identifying and promoting manufacturing techniques that can contribute to improved packaging line efficiencies, reducing customer complaints and supporting our innovation agenda. 

  • Supporting Production services in tool ordering

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Recognised qualification in packaging or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of packaging and design principles

  • Great attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Confident communicator and proactive team player

  • Able to thrive under pressure during busy periods

  • Proficient in MS Office (Adobe skills a bonus)

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a similar role

  • Familiarity with Collaborative design platforms and CAD software
