As a Residential Care Specialist III, you will embody the qualities essential for guiding and supporting domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking survivors and their children. In this advanced position, you will play a key role in supporting clients as they transition to the shelter environment, including welcoming new residents, providing a thorough orientation to the facility, and assisting them as they acclimate to our program and associated services. You will maintain strong communication with the Shelter Case Manager to ensure client care is seamless and all available services and resources are encouraged for optimal client success and long-term care.

 

Alongside providing trauma-informed direct care, you will support the daily operations of the residential facility, uphold safety protocols, and help maintain a calm, respectful, and survivor-centered environment. You will have a role in shaping shelter programming by facilitating peer support groups, coordinating on-site classes, and promoting meaningful participant engagement.

 

Your responsibilities will include mentoring and training junior staff and making informed decisions during critical situations. You will collaborate closely with program leadership to support, refine, and implement best practices that strengthen residential services and enhance the overall participant experience.

 

This is primarily a day shift role with expected flexibility needed to cover staffing gaps and participation in after-hours Crisis Hotline coverage when necessary



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Document interventions and services provided in the agency’s case management system.
  • Support residents and their children in daily activities, offering guidance that fosters safety, stability, and wellbeing.
  • Participate in case staffing as needed to provide residential insights and support coordinated care.
  • Provide crisis intervention, immediate safety planning, and support during high-need situations.
  • Review program-related emails and incident reports to remain updated on resident needs and current situations.
  • Manage shelter intake and exit procedures and complete required documentation.
  • Facilitate or support House Meetings, as needed.
  • Assist with cleaning duties, including operating the dishwasher, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, turning over resident rooms, dusting, sterilizing, and doing laundry.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining closets, the shed, and common areas.
  • Assist in building or assembling shelter equipment and newly purchased items, as appropriate.
  • Provide transportation to residents, as needed, in alignment with program services.
  • Oversee resident chore assignments and conduct routine room checks.
  • Review resident requests for transportation and off-site stays, to support safety planning and program expectations
  • Provide back-up for evening/weekend on call and curfew shifts.
  • Document, track and request donations and supplies as needed to support shelter operations.
  • Assist with planning and implementing shelter events, holidays, and resident birthdays.
  • Coordinate and facilitate educational and peer-support groups for residents and their children.
  • Create and implement New Resident Orientation to familiarize residents with the shelter environment and community expectations, and available resources.
  • Train new staff in shelter processes and procedures.
  • Mentor junior staff through shadowing opportunities and hands-on training.
  • Oversee food inventory, restocking, and shopping as needed.
  • Provide Crisis Hotline Coverage, including hospital response, as assigned (may include nights, evenings and weekends).
  • Audit documentation of junior staff to ensure consistency with agency standards of excellence.
  • Actively review junior staff activities and interactions to encourage consistency in service delivery and alignment with agency standards of excellence.
  • Participate in performance review processes with leadership by providing input to the day-to-day performance of junior staff in your supervision with team leaders.
  • Review and provide recommendations for updates to processes to ensure continued efficiencies and efficacy of program deliverables.
  • Make purchases and submit receipts in alignment with agency policies.
  • Run weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensure data accuracy as needed for reporting or determining program needs.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory changes that may impact program services.
  • Participate in leadership meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties that may be reasonably expected in association with your program and assigned responsibilities.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of trauma informed principles and practices (preferred)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to work with collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, victims' rights, and community resources
  • Ability to engage clients in a way that supports safety, empowerment, and well-being
  • Ability to successfully complete training in accordance with XX

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid CDL required
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Previous experience working with survivors of domestic violence or trauma preferred
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Residential Counselor II
  • Completion of One SAFE Place’s (or equivalent) 66-hour domestic violence and sexual assault crisis intervention training preferred.

  • Exposure to residents with emotional disturbances and/or sensitive situations which require you to practice regular selfcare and maintain personal awareness of emotional response and how this may impact you personally
