CSS, Inc. is looking for a qualified candidate to support the Fisheries Statistics Division (FSD) of NOAA's Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC). This individual will provide data management, analytical, and scientific support.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute, receive, quality control, and finalize commercial fishermen's logbooks that are required to be submitted to the SEFSC
  • Support FERS Registration of Permit holders and e-Trip application testing
  • Assist in the analysis and extraction of logbook data using SQL and standard statistical programs such as SAS or R
  • Participate in outreach events such as Open Houses, Youth/Career Fairs, etc. in order to explain logbook program goals and methods to the public
  • Present, facilitate, or participate in various electronic logbook reporting related workshops, scientific and technological meetings, symposiums, and public forums.

Qualifications

  • MS Degree in Marine Science or a related field; OR BS Degree plus three years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with common word processing, database, statistical, and graphics software.
  • Knowledge of SQL and standard statistical programs such as SAS or R
  • Ability to apply basic concepts, principles and methodologies to independently perform scientific tasks using standard methods and techniques
  • Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial fishers preferred
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check (NACI) and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.

The role is contingent upon CSS winning the contract, please note it can take several months before we know whether this role will be filled.
