Medical Assistant/Prior Authorizations for a Neurology & Psychiatry

About the Position
We are looking for a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant or healthcare professional interested in growing their knowledge and experience in the neurological and psychiatric fields.
 
This position is a great opportunity for someone who wants to become an integral part of a specialty practice and work closely with a Neurological Nurse Practitioner. The role combines patient support, insurance verification, prior authorizations, referrals, and general clinical/administrative responsibilities.
 
The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, communicates professionally, is comfortable speaking with insurance companies and physician offices, and understands the importance of accuracy when coordinating patient care.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient appointment lists daily to ensure appointments are appropriately scheduled, insurances are active, and all authorization/referral requirements are met.
  • Submit and follow up on insurance authorization and referral requests.
  • Contact insurance companies to obtain accurate and up-to-date benefit information.
  • Double-check new patient appointments to ensure patients are eligible to be seen, including:
     
    • Insurance is active.
  • Required referrals are in place.
  • Prior authorizations are obtained when necessary.
  • Patient benefits and coverage are appropriate for the visit.
  • Re-verify patient insurance information on the 1st day of each month.
  • Follow up with PCP offices and insurance companies regarding pending referrals and authorizations.
    • Assist the Neurological Nurse Practitioner with various clinical and administrative tasks.
    • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claims and coverage questions.
    • Complete and maintain accurate documentation and notes.
    • Assist with patient communication and coordination of care.
    • Help troubleshoot insurance, referral, authorization, and scheduling issues.
  • Perform various administrative and clinical support tasks as needed 

  • What We're Looking For
    • Medical Assistant experience preferred, but we are open to someone eager to learn and grow in the field.
    • Interest in neurology and/or psychiatry strongly preferred.
    • Experience with insurance verification, referrals, or prior authorizations is a plus.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
    • Comfortable communicating with insurance companies, PCP offices, and patients.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy medical office.
    • Professional, dependable, and compassionate demeanor.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Willingness to learn specialty-specific terminology, procedures, and workflows.
    • Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
