Worldscape is seeking a Lead Technical Artist to serve as the critical bridge between art and engineering, driving the technical direction of content creation and ensuring visual quality, efficiency, and performance across the project. You will be reporting into the Studio Head and responsible for defining workflows, optimizing pipelines, delivering innovative tools and visual solutions, as well as working with partner teams in outsourced art and VFX assets. The ideal candidate combines deep artistic understanding with strong technical expertise to support world-class content creation and elevate the visual bar of the product. 

 

This is an onsite role located in Redmond, WA.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Technical Artists, fostering both artistic and technical excellence. 
  • Define, maintain, and optimize art content pipelines, workflows, and toolchains across multiple projects.  
  • Collaborate closely with Art, Design, Engineering, and Production to ensure seamless integration of assets and features.  
  • Drive performance profiling, debugging, and optimization on target platforms.  
  • Develop tools, scripts, and automation solutions that increase team efficiency and reduce production bottlenecks.  
  • Partner with graphics engineering team to ensure the highest fidelity and quality of our rendering engine and ensure technical feasibility.  
  • Identify and solve complex visual, performance, and workflow challenges throughout production.  
  • Establish best practices, documentation, and guidelines for art creation and technical standards.  
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, techniques, and processes to improve the project’s overall quality and efficiency. 
  • Translate deep technical art topics into actionable insights for studio and platform teams and leadership. 


Professional Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in game development or interactive media.  
  • Proven experience shipping at least one AAA or large-scale project.  
  • Strong proficiency in modern game engines.  
  • Command of art pipelines and performance optimization for real-time rendering.  
  • Solid experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, HLSL/GLSL).  
  • Proficiency with major DCC tools such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, Substance, or similar.  
  • Deep understanding of rendering fundamentals, asset workflows, and real-time performance constraints and modern rendering techniques. 
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience within multidisciplinary internal and external art/tech teams.  
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills. 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expert in shader development, material authoring, or rendering pipelines. 
  • Knowledge of procedural content creation (e.g., Houdini) or advanced simulation workflows. 
  • Familiarity with ML/AI-assisted content creation tools and modern automation strategies. 
  • Background in technical direction, pipeline architecture, or team management for large teams. 
  • Strong artistic sensibilities with the ability to critique art and contribute creatively. 
  • Experience with source control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and production tooling. 
  • Passion for pushing the boundaries of visual quality and improving team workflows.

$160,000 - $200,000 a year
Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and equity awards.
