At Meta, we’re building the future of human connection and the technology that enables it. This means continuously inventing and developing technologies for the next generation of experiences. To continue our efforts in the path to AGI, and as we move closer to a future with intelligent robots and advanced AI models, we're hiring talent across a broad range of disciplines from robotics hardware to system software, machine perception, and artificial intelligence. These crucial projects and initiatives taken on by this team have never been done before, so you have a rare opportunity to help us create new ways people connect around the world. The Meta Robotics Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with an emphasis on testing and instrumentation to inform mechanical design limits, reduce weight, and improve reliability and quality of the products. This role will be part of a ME team responsible for concept development, analytical modeling, prototype design, fabrication, vendor management, and testing. Candidates will work in a high ambiguity, deadline-driven environment where full system requirements are seldom known. This team is dedicated to building hardware that enables learning through data collection and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Defining static and dynamic design loads for the team for all subsystems through detailed investigation and study of anticipated use-cases
  • Instrumenting robots, collecting data, and processing to determine peak shock and vibration forces
  • Sustaining engineering: Troubleshooting root-cause of mechanical failures, implementing improved designs, testing effectiveness of change
  • Designing test plans to simulate loads at a component and sub-system level on a vibration/shock table
  • Helping build a test & measurement internal team
  • Collaborate closely with reliability team to implement best practices for high-reliability mechanical and electrical design
  • Designing test protocols, fixtures, and custom built equipment to conduct high load tests
  • Build subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptions
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers (EE, SW, Firmware) to deliver complete technical solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in Mechanical Design Engineering and with experience in mechanical engineering design for harsh environments, and test and measurement
  • BS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with shock and vibration measurement and analysis
  • Experience in test fixture design
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX or similar CAD tools
  • Experience with prototyping manufacturing processes and materials
  • Experience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
  • Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) - Static structural analysis, modal analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Robotics and consumer electronic product design
  • Experience driving and leading projects from cradle to grave
