The Amazon LEO Battery organization develops next-generation power systems for Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation. Our team designs and deploys advanced battery manufacturing processes, automated production equipment, and test solutions supporting engineering development through high-rate production.

As a Sr. Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will lead the development of custom automation, production stations, engineering fixtures, and test systems for battery pack manufacturing. You will serve as a technical expert, working across Battery, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Software, Quality, Reliability, and Production Operations teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges and improve quality, throughput, equipment reliability, and scalability. This role offers the opportunity to build manufacturing infrastructure from the ground up while driving automation and operational excellence for high-quality spaceflight hardware.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, integration, and deployment of custom manufacturing automation equipment.
- Develop automated assembly and test stations, fixtures, tooling, calibration equipment, and end-of-line systems.
- Design and integrate electrical controls, interface boards, wiring, sensors, motion systems, robotics, machine vision, and industrial hardware.
- Develop equipment automation using Python, PLCs, LabVIEW, C#, or similar platforms.
- Lead equipment commissioning, validation, qualification, and production readiness.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve quality, yield, cycle time, equipment uptime, and production scalability.
- Develop proof-of-concept solutions and transition successful technologies into production.
- Establish automation standards and mentor engineers and technicians. Basic Qualifications: - Experience in robotics design, automation systems development, control systems design, or related product development
- 5+ years of experience developing manufacturing or industrial automation equipment.
- Experience developing custom automation from concept through production deployment.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, RS-485 etc.
- Knowledge of industrial safety, DFM/DFT, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience improving equipment uptime, yield, throughput, and cycle time. Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Experience in battery, aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, robotics, or other advanced manufacturing.
- Experience with manufacturing data systems, equipment monitoring, traceability, or MES integration.
- Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for equipment and manufacturing failures.
- Provide liaison engineering support to prodops to close on all related non conformances

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
