Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Research Scientist Intern to explore novel optical solutions for AR devices. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
  • Present research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.
  • Develop next generation AR displays with an emphasis on advanced simulations and experimental optics prototyping to prove new concepts and understand the factors that impact them.
  • Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to explore novel solution spaces for AR devices.
  • Explore the application of at least one of the following: geometrical optics, diffraction optics, illumination, optical system design.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant technical field
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: physical optics, geometric optics, aberration theory, optical system design
  • 2+ years of experience with experimental optics and conducting laboratory work, including demonstrated ability to construct proof-of-concept systems and evaluate performance
  • 2+ years of experience with at least one scientific programming language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, etc)
  • Intent to return to the degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op


Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V or similar
  • 2+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas: holography, diffractive optics, wave optics
  • Experience working with holographic materials, spatial light modulators, and interferometric exposure tools
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading journals and conferences


$7,313/month to $12,134/month + benefits
