Position Purpose

The Shift Leader/Packing is responsible for overseeing the packaging process within the pet food manufacturing plant to ensure that products are packed correctly, safely, and efficiently. This role involves leading a team of packaging operators, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring compliance with quality standards, safety protocols, and production schedules. The Lead Technician plays a key role in achieving production targets by monitoring the packing process, maintaining equipment, and improving overall packaging efficiency.


Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work Shift Schedule
  • Previous experience as a lead in a manufacturing environment
  • 2 or more years’ manufacturing experience
  • REQUIRED to work all shifts 


Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Coordination
    • Work cross functionally with Warehouse Lead to ensure timely loading for trucks based on product needs
    • Train and mentor team members on packing procedures, equipment use, and safety standards.
    • Ensure all packing checks and paperwork are completed at the end of the run.
    • Development of Clean and inspect activities for the operator to ensure the equipment stays in base condition
    • Work with the operators to develop centerlines for the different runs
    • Lead problem solving activities with the operations team
    • Ensure 5S in the area is kept up
    • Take technical calls from the operators to determine if maintenance is needed.
    • Work with safety to develop safe operating procedures
    • Cover breaks for the packing team
    • Ensure operators have proper bags for manufacturing run.
    • Collaborate with production and quality control teams to resolve any issues impacting packaging quality or efficiency.


  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
    • Conduct basic maintenance and troubleshooting of packing equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
    • Report major equipment issues to the maintenance department and assist with repair activities as needed.
    • Document and Communicate equipment, performance, and maintenance activities in compliance with company policies.
