Who We Are

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.

Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.

Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.

Key responsibilities include administering medical/dental/vision and voluntary plans; coordinating enrollments, changes, terminations, COBRA, claims, and audits; maintaining benefit files and payroll deductions; reconciling monthly invoices with payroll; supporting ACA and other regulatory compliance (ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, Section 125, Workers' Compensation); building online forms and employee communications; and preparing reports and presentations.

Required qualifications/skills:
- Associate's degree or 1–2 years of related benefits/HR/finance experience
- Strong customer service, organization, and communication skills

- Ability to travel; regular attendance; pass pre-employment screening and PL101-630 requirements

Apply to help deliver reliable, high-quality benefits support.

A Typical Day

Your day is structured and service-driven: you start by checking benefit-related messages and time-sensitive items, then move into scheduled employee conversations-helping someone compare plan options, clarifying a deduction, or guiding a life-event update. Midday often includes reviewing vendor statements and reconciling figures before routing items for payment, along with updating digital forms or preparing clean, easy-to-follow materials for an upcoming orientation or open enrollment.

As the day continues, you shift between focused desk work and quick coordination with internal partners, keeping records current and documentation audit-ready. You may also prepare a short report or a slide deck for a benefits meeting. The day wraps with follow-ups, confirmations, and a clear next-step list so employees get timely answers and the program stays on track.
