Our team in Reno is hiring an Engineering Technician III to support system-level validation of current and next-generation residential energy products. This role will work closely with engineering to build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve laboratory infrastructure and test fixtures used for advanced electrical and system validation testing. The technician will support validation activities for hybrid inverters, battery storage systems, lithium-ion battery products, PV microinverters, load management equipment, smart disconnect switches, transfer equipment, and related system components. This includes hands-on lab setup, electrical assembly, equipment configuration, test execution, documentation of results, and support for issue reproduction and troubleshooting. This role is important to ensure that test systems are safe, repeatable, well-documented, and ready to support product development milestones.

This position is located onsite in Reno, NV.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, wire, validate, and maintain electrical test systems per schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering direction, including wiring, conduit, transformers, load panels, test equipment, PV equipment, battery systems, PCBAs, and related hardware
  • Build, modify, and maintain lab infrastructure and system validation fixtures used for inverter, battery, PV, load management, and smart switchgear testing.
  • Create, update, and redline electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, test setup documentation, and lab configuration records.
  • Set up, assemble, fabricate, and modify products, test equipment, fixtures, carts, panels, and prototype systems per procedures, schematics, safety requirements, and engineering direction.
  • Execute validation tests on prototypes, production-intent hardware, existing products, and competitor products to evaluate performance, reliability, installation behavior, and system-level operation.
  • Support firmware and system validation activities by configuring devices, updating firmware, reproducing issues, collecting data, and documenting observed behavior.
  • Use electrical, mechanical, and electronic measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, power meters, DAQs, DC power supplies, grid simulators, electronic loads, meters, and other lab equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical systems, communication issues, product setup problems, test failures, and unexpected system behavior.Support commissioning, installation, and startup testing of complete systems.
  • Maintain safe, organized, audit-ready lab areas and recommend facility, tooling, equipment, and infrastructure improvements to increase safety, repeatability, and throughput.
  • Mentor and train developing technicians in lab practices, test setup, troubleshooting, safety expectations, and documentation standards.

Minimal Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ Years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working with high power systems (400V DC, 480VAC)
  • Experience documenting electrical systems, redlining drawings, and writing clear procedures or test notes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in electronics, electrical technology, or a related technical field
  • Familiarity with residential electrical wiring and applicable electrical codes
  • Experience with grid-tied PV, battery storage, hybrid inverters, solar inverters, combiner boxes, control modules, transfer switches, load management devices, or smart switchgear.
  • Experience working with lithium-ion battery systems
  • Experience with power electronics and related test and measurement equipment such as power meters, grid simulators, DC supplies, DAQs, Oscilloscopes, and electronic loads
  • Ability to solder, desolder, and repair PCBA’s
  • Experience or interest in supporting engineering validation, product development, firmware testing, issue reproduction, and ownership of lab systems/test execution.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and interpret electrical measurement data as well as maintain test documentation, procedures, results, and lab records in a database or structured documentation system.
