About the Role:
The Driver CDL Class A position is critical to ensuring the safe and timely transportation of goods across various regions within the United States. This role involves operating commercial motor vehicles that require a Class A Commercial Driver's License, often including tractor-trailers and other large trucks. The driver will be responsible for adhering to all federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations while maintaining the integrity of the cargo. Effective route planning, vehicle inspection, and communication with dispatch and clients are essential to optimize delivery schedules and customer satisfaction. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the supply chain's efficiency and the company's reputation for reliable logistics services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles.
- Ability to pass DOT physical examination and drug screening.
- Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety inspection procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS navigation systems.
- Previous experience in long-haul or regional freight delivery.
- Customer service experience and strong communication skills.
- Ability to perform minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
- Operate Class A commercial vehicles safely and efficiently to transport goods to designated locations.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of working hours, vehicle inspections, and delivery records in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other team members to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policies to minimize risks and ensure cargo security.
Skills:
The required skills for this role include proficient vehicle operation and navigation, which are essential for safely transporting goods across diverse routes and conditions. Strong knowledge of transportation regulations ensures compliance and helps avoid costly violations or delays. Effective communication skills are used daily to coordinate with dispatch and customers, providing updates and resolving issues promptly. Preferred skills such as familiarity with electronic logging devices and GPS technology enhance route efficiency and regulatory compliance. Additionally, mechanical aptitude allows the driver to perform routine vehicle inspections and minor repairs, minimizing downtime and maintaining safety standards.
