Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations for Heritage Holdings and its affiliated companies. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, is comfortable working in a multi-entity environment, and demonstrates initiative in identifying and solving problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post journal entries related to recurring expenses, accruals, and adjustments.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accrued liabilities.
- Assist with the month end close process and preparation of internal financial reports.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions, including processing, coding and reviewing transactions as needed.
- Reconcile intercompany balances and ensure appropriate eliminations across multiple entities.
- Assist in preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation for external audits.
- Leverage digital tools to maintain consistently organized records and documentation in accordance with internal controls.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting processes, identifying inefficiencies, and contributing to automation or standardization efforts.
- Collaborate with Accounting Supervisor on special projects, such as process improvements and system implementations
- Educate and train other stakeholders in the company on processes and systems when applicable.
- Participate in cross-training to build knowledge across key finance functions and support team flexibility.
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Work Arrangement: This position will be fully in person during the first three months of employment to support onboarding and training. Following this initial period, employees will have the opportunity to transition to a hybrid work schedule based on business needs and performance. Our new office location in Barron is expected to open in the fourth quarter (Q4).
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a formal education
Experience:
- 3-5 years of general ledger accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity environment.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement, automation, or workflow optimization.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and month end close practices
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Excel
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team in a remote environment
