Raytheon is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Senior Principal Engineer to join the Mission Applied Science & Technology (MAST) team. The MAST directorate is an energetic multi-disciplinary team of over 60 engineers working collaboratively with internal and external customers to develop novel solutions for data science and emerging technology applications. Our team pushes the boundaries of innovation and creativity to establish next-generation mission solutions from system-level up to campaign level.

We are seeking a skilled Modeling and Simulation Engineer with a primary focus on developing a Python-based application for simulation, modeling, and analysis of complex real-world systems. Other potential project focus areas include applying data and analytic methods to mission management, command and control systems, AIML applications, or Live Virtual Constructive simulation environments. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing and developing data analytic solutions to enable data-driven decision-making, such as trade-off analyses. This role requires collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team that is distributed across time zones. You must have the ability to manage time and resources to meet assigned deadlines working within an Agile development environment. This role may require some travel to other US Raytheon sites.

What You Will Do

  • Interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, end users, and subject matter experts to define production model requirements, validate implemented models, and conduct demonstrations   

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to define, design, and implement new production model configurations and software features for a Python-based simulation application

  • Employ data analytic methods (e.g., data collection and processing, statistical analysis, distribution fitting, etc.) to maintain production model input parameters

  • Conduct verification, validation, and testing of new and revised production model configurations and software features

  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations to leaders and stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization, functional disciplines, and business units

  • Participate in code reviews and enforce adherence to coding standards and best practices

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience

  • Experience collaborating with customers to define requirements and measures of success

  • Experience with simulation modeling and analysis processes for complex real-world systems:

  • Problem definition, data processing, statistics, Figures of Merit (FoM), model design and translation, verification and validation, visualizations, etc.

  • Experience with multiple Python libraries and software packages for backend and / or frontend development in an object-oriented programming environment:

  • NumPy, Pandas, SimPy, Panel, Bokeh, Pydot, PyQt, Plotly Dash, HoloViz, Graphviz, etc.

  • Proficient in interacting with software through a terminal interface:

  • Bash, Powershell, iPython, etc.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Strong customer focus

  • Experience with statistics, statistical modeling (e.g., logistic regression, Bayesian models, etc.), and/or data distribution fitting (e.g., normal, lognormal, Weibull, etc.)

  • Experience with implementing Discrete Event Simulation

  • Experience in technical leadership / mentorship

  • Experience with one or more of the following code hosting and version control tools:

  • Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, etc.

  • Experience working with a team distributed across multiple time zones

  • Scrum Master and / or Product Owner certification

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
