General Position Summary:


The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social,Ā emotionalĀ and physical developmentĀ in order toĀ ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adultsĀ in order toĀ meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment-including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate forms, and children documentation.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.Ā

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical classroom environment.
  • Ability to accept work interruptions while still remaining focused on duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.


Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional education or experience in ECE.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in child developmentĀ 


Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate
  • Demonstrated history of good judgement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from director and assistant director
  • Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with parents, staff, and other colleagues
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.


FLSA Designation: (Nonexempt) (FT = 40 of hours per week) (Schedule: M-F 8:30-5:30 p.m.)
