Williams Mullen is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in the firm’s day‑to‑day financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career accounting professional looking to build a strong foundation in general ledger accounting, financial analysis, and professional services accounting within a collaborative law firm environment.
What You’ll Do
As a Staff Accountant, you’ll support a wide range of accounting functions while gaining hands‑on experience across the full accounting cycle:
- Complete accounting duties for trust accounts, including cash receipts, disbursements, transfers, client fund documentation, and compliance support
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Support general ledger accounting and routine financial reporting
- Prepare and enter routine and adjusting journal entries, ensuring proper documentation
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, check requests, and payment tracking
- Support month‑end and year‑end close activities by compiling reports and verifying accuracy
- Ensure closing processes are completed accurately and on time
- Assist with Personal Property Tax filings and government reporting as needed
- Communicate with internal stakeholders, clients, vendors, and third‑party accounting partners on financial matters
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical accounting files in compliance with firm retention and confidentiality standards
- Perform other accounting, financial, and administrative duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
This role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who is detail‑oriented, organized, and eager to learn:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required
- 2+ years of experience in general ledger accounting and/or financial analysis
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of accounting practices in a law firm or professional services environment (preferred, not required)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Effective time‑management and prioritization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidential financial information
