About BHSVA

Behavioral Health Services of Virginia (BHSVA) provides person-centered, community-based behavioral health services to children, adults, and families throughout Virginia. Our Intensive In-Home (IIH) and Mental Health Skill-Building (MHSB) programs focus on improving stability, strengthening daily functioning, and helping individuals successfully remain within their homes and communities.

Position Overview

BHSVA is seeking experienced, independently licensed clinicians to support our IIH and MHSB programs as Clinical Assessors and/or Clinical Supervisors.

Clinicians may contract specifically to complete assessments, provide clinical supervision, or perform both functions based on qualifications, availability, and current program needs.

This opportunity is ideal for licensed professionals seeking flexible contract work while supporting the delivery of quality community-based behavioral health services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessor

  • Conduct in-person Comprehensive Needs Assessments (CNAs) for individuals referred to IIH and MHSB services
  • Assess clinical needs, risk factors, functioning, strengths, and recommended services
  • Develop clinically appropriate recommendations based on client needs and medical necessity
  • Complete assessment documentation accurately and within required timeframes
  • Coordinate with internal teams to support timely service authorization and continuity of care

Clinical Supervisor

  • Provide individual and/or group clinical supervision to assigned QMHPs
  • Provide clinical guidance regarding client needs, interventions, treatment goals, and case concerns
  • Review clinical documentation for quality, accuracy, and compliance
  • Support QMHPs in maintaining appropriate clinical and professional standards
  • Participate in case consultation and provide clinical recommendations as needed


Contract Opportunity

This is a 1099 independent contractor position offering flexibility based on clinician availability and agency needs. Contractors may have opportunities to provide assessments, clinical supervision, or both.

Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field
  • Active and unrestricted Virginia clinical license, such as LCSW, LPC, or LMFT, or other qualifying credential as applicable to the services provided
  • Relevant behavioral health and clinical experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred for clinicians providing QMHP supervision
  • Knowledge of Virginia Medicaid, DBHDS, clinical documentation, and medical necessity requirements preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Ability to complete required documentation within established agency timeframes
  • Ability to travel throughout Richmond and surrounding areas for in-person assessments, if serving as an assessor
