About the Position:
The Employment Counsellor works with a diverse range of individuals (including inclusion group’s members) to assist them in securing and maintaining employment or community attachment. This is a floater position supporting multiple WorkBC Centres in the Greater Vancouver Area, in particular Vancouver, TriCities, Langley, Aldergrove, and Richmond.Â
Reports to: Centre Manager
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs active client recruitment Â
- Conducts formal needs assessments through structured interview processes to identify and prioritize issues that are preventing clients from achieving employmentÂ
- Develops personalized plans that addresses clients’ needs and making use of services available within WorkBCÂ
- Makes referrals to community resources as neededÂ
- Monitors client progress by reviewing activities and learning outcomes on a communication mediumÂ
- Reviews, revises and updates action plans to enhance self-sufficiency and sustainable labour market attachmentÂ
- Ensures clients achieve employment (or community attachment) in a timely mannerÂ
- Determines client needs and eligibility and administering financial supports where appropriateÂ
- Completes documentation and preparing financial reports as requiredÂ
- Ensures client activities fall within the scope of the budget parametersÂ
- Ensures billing milestones and employment sustainment targets for the program are met on an individual basis each monthÂ
- Captures client data to evidence qualitative and quantitative outcomesÂ
- Writes client progress notes, follow-up reports and success storiesÂ
- Works at different WorkBC Centres during term of employment Â
- Other related duties as assigned by the manager Â
Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services and/or Education; or a combination of training and professional experience in supporting individuals with disabilities and complex barriersÂ
- CCDP an assetÂ
- Motivational Interviewing training or similar training will be considered as an assetÂ
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an assetÂ
- Mental Health First Aid training an assetÂ
- Trauma-Informed Practice training an assetÂ
- Experience in career developmentÂ
- Experience in employment counselling and work placementÂ
- Experience in WorkBC programs an assetÂ
- Experience conducting need assessments and developing action plansÂ
- Experience in managing client data and documenting the counselling processÂ
- Knowledge of career counselling, cross-cultural counselling and job developmentÂ
- Knowledge of the local labour marketÂ
