Job Summary

Environmental Research Group, LLC (ERG) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual with Collections and/or Curatorial experience to support on-site collections projects in Richmond, Virginia. This role is ideal for early to mid-career professionals passionate about archaeology and/or history, historical collections, and preserving cultural heritage.

Essential Functions

  • Input of artifact dimensions, descriptions, conditions, and quantities into DONHAMS or NHHC-provided Excel spreadsheet
  • Identification photographs captured with professional equipment at 300 DPI or greater; delivered in JPEG format
  • Documentation detailing provenance research, artifact identification, and accessions number verification
  • Briefings on the number of objects inventoried/assessed and the work rate (artifacts assessed per person/per hour)
  • Written compilation of the project update metrics (objects assessed and work rates)
  • Comprehensive summary of all work accomplished
  • Finalize inventory dataset; print and provide electronic copies delivered to the technical point of contact

Qualifications

  • Contractors assigned to this project must be U.S. citizens with professional collection management experience, in addition to the following:
  • Experience working with the physical management of historical artifact collections, preferably experience with maritime and military collections as a museum specialist/collection manager
  • A graduate degree in museum studies or closely related field and one (1) year of curatorial experience or three (3) years of graduate study and experience combined; or a Bachelor's degree in museum studies, or closely related field, and four (4) years museum experience with increasingly difficult duties; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with historical metal objects
  • Knowledge of collections inventory software
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour plus Service Contract Act Health & Welfare stipend as applicable, plus ERG's full benefits package (health insurance with a generous employer subsidy, eleven paid holidays, paid time off, fitness stipend, a 401(k) plan with an employer contribution regardless of employee contribution, and more).
