Bluegrass Pediatric Therapies (BPT) is seeking a dependable, organized, and professional Collections Specialist to join our billing team. This position helps maintain accurate patient accounts and works with families and insurance companies to resolve outstanding balances.
Responsibilities
- Review and follow up on outstanding patient and insurance balances
- Contact families regarding account balances and payment options
- Submit and track insurance claims, appeals, and corrected claims
- Investigate denied, rejected, or unpaid claims
- Verify payments, adjustments, and account information
- Document all collection activity accurately and promptly
- Establish payment arrangements in accordance with BPT policies
- Respond professionally to billing questions from families
- Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements
- Work closely with the billing and administrative teams to resolve account issues
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in medical billing, collections, accounts receivable, or insurance follow-up preferred
- Knowledge of insurance claims and explanation of benefits preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to discuss financial matters with professionalism, patience, and compassion
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Schedule and Compensation
This position is based in the billing department at our Richmond clinic. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some scheduling flexibility. After training and based on performance and operational needs, the employee may be eligible to work from home one day per week.
Starting pay is $15 per hour. Upon successful completion of the 60-day introductory period, pay will increase to $16 per hour.
