Customer Service Representative | Pay: $20/hour | 5 Days On-site | 6 Month Contract-To-Hire

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Customer Service Representative to join our team. You will handle inbound calls ranging from 25 to 50 per day, addressing a variety of customer inquiries. Your role will involve answering questions related to service activation, payments, and usage, as well as managing customer complaints. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring gas and water usage, conducting investigations, and generating service orders.

Responsibilities

  • Answer basic to complex customer questions regarding service activation, payments, and usage.
  • Monitor and investigate gas and water usage discrepancies from daily meter read exception reports.
  • Research and respond to customer inquiries and generate service orders.
  • Contact other departments as needed and perform monetary adjustments when warranted.
  • Adjust monetary figures for customer-owned cooling towers and irrigation meters.
  • Prepare reports for special billing accounts.
  • Collect data for new customers, calculate deposits, and inform them of payment options.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of customer service experience, including retail interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Experience with customer service call centers and handling inbound calls.
  • Strong written communication skills, with excellent grammar.
  • Analytical skills to assess accounts and develop solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and present solutions to supervisors.
  • Familiarity with older software systems, including Banner CIS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of customer service best practices and procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate standard office equipment.
  • Understanding of utility rates and City services.
  • Proficiency in data entry and standard office protocols.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematics and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and handle fast-paced situations.
  • Ability to defuse inflamed situations with empathy and compassion.

Work Environment

The position is onsite, within a cubical call center environment, operating from 8am to 5pm. The team consists of 19 call center representatives and 55 BPO agents. The work environment encourages collaboration and effective communication among team members to enhance the customer experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
