Job Summary:
The Envelope Operator ensures the smooth operation of the production shift by setting up and operating large machinery, performing size changes, organizing workflow, inspecting product for accuracy, completing required paperwork, and executing other duties as assigned by the Envelope Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set up and adjust machine and equipment for safe and efficient operation in the production process to meet work order specifications. This includes the start-up,
    operation, and adjustment to proper parameters involving close tolerances,
    maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of equipment.
  • Reviews job tickets to determine tools, parts and materials necessary for
    machine changes and/or adjustments.
  • Performs both standard and special machine adjustments to meet job
    specifications.
  • Troubleshoots problems, repairs/replaces damaged and worn machine
    components.
  • Assists in adjuster/operator training.
  • Trainees will assist in performing changes, adjustments, and repairs on
    production machines.
  • Examines, tests, and measures of product from assigned equipment.
  • Examines product defects and ensures quality processes are followed.
  • Change window rolls.
  • Analyzes mechanical issues on assigned equipment and takes corrective action.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and ensures consistent quality
    production.
  • Minimizes waste by ensuring that all waste is properly segregated, weighed,
    recorded, and placed in the proper waste container.
  • Assist machine operator in maintaining quality control and production
    requirements.
  • Provides coverage for machine operators if necessary.
  • Notifies shift supervisor of recurring equipment issues and any correction action
    taken.
  • Maintains a hazard-free, cleaning machine and work area to include sweeping, removing waste, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to reason and perform basic math.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively-both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Minimal travel anticipated; may include auto and air travel.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions, such as meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Loud work environment-hearing protection is required.

Heavy lifting is required:

  • Occasionally lift over 100 lbs
  • Frequently lift 50+ lbs.
  • Constantly lift 20 lbs.
  • Push/pull between 10–100 lbs.
  • Work is repetitive in nature.
  • Must possess reasonable decision-making skills to determine when machinery should be shut down due to issues.
  • May be required to operate a pallet jack or forklift.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  •  3–5 years of previous experience preferred.

Workplace Hazards

  • Minor chemical splash hazard during cleaning.
  • Slight risks of burns, chemical splashes, electrical shock, and impact hazards.
  • Exposure paper dust, minor cuts, punctures, and abrasions.
  • Minor risk of repetitive motion injuries.
  • May be subject to extreme cold, heat, and wet or humid environments.
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, and gases.
