Overview

Drill-Tech is seeking an HDD Equipment Operator to support horizontal directional drilling crews on underground utility projects in Richmond, Virginia.

Headquartered in Chester, Maryland, Drill-Tech performs HDD and underground utility work throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

This is a hands-on field position responsible for operating HDD equipment and supporting drilling operations while working closely with foremen, locators, and crew members.

Responsibilities

  • Operate HDD equipment during drilling operations
  • Assist with drilling, reaming, pullback, and pipe installation
  • Operate support equipment including skid steers, excavators, and loaders
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Assist with mud mixing and drilling fluid management
  • Support equipment mobilization and demobilization
  • Work closely with foremen, locators, and field crews
  • Maintain safe work practices and jobsite standards

Qualifications

  • Experience operating HDD equipment or related heavy equipment
  • Experience with Vermeer 23x30, 24x40, or similar directional drills preferred
  • Experience operating skid steers, excavators, loaders, or similar equipment
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors and travel as project needs require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A CDL
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • Experience operating Vermeer 100-series drills or larger HDD equipment
  • Experience with 300,000 lb or 500,000 lb maxi rigs
  • Experience with mud systems, drilling fluids, pumps, and recyclers
  • Experience with DigiTrak or ParaTrack locating systems
  • Experience with McElroy fusion equipment
