Purpose
The Manager on Duty (MOD) at Good Foods Grocery is responsible for overseeing store operations during assigned shifts — including opening, mid-day, and closing. This position ensures a clean and organized store environment, supports and directs staff, and serves as the primary manager on-site. The MOD must demonstrate strong leadership, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining store safety, security, and efficiency while fostering a positive team culture.

General Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and enforce Good Foods Grocery (GFG) and Commonwealth Autism policies and procedures.
- Monitor work email during business hours for timely responses.
- Support GFG’s goals, values, and community involvement initiatives.
- Communicate project needs, priorities, and updates clearly before the end of each shift.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and productive work environment, setting a positive example for the team.
- Ensure all essential duties are covered during absences and proactively suggest process improvements.
- Actively pursue leadership growth and contribute to the overall success of the company.

Key Responsibilities:
Manager On Duty Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for staff and customer concerns during assigned shifts.
- Provide guidance and direction to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Address urgent issues such as customer service challenges, staffing needs, or operational disruptions.
- Ensure all staff members follow company policies, safety procedures, and food handling standards.
- Communicate significant incidents or concerns to upper management promptly.
- Lead by example in providing exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
- Oversee employee performance and provide on-the-spot coaching or corrective feedback as needed.
- Maintain store security, including proper handling of store keys, alarm systems, and opening/closing protocols.

Store Operations & Cleanliness:
- Supervise and support staff in completing opening, mid-day, and closing procedures.
- Perform regular walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, organization, and product presentation across all departments.
- Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of store areas including floors, café, bathrooms, and bulk sections.
- Confirm all equipment and fixtures are functioning safely and properly.
- Ensure secure management of back doors, keys, and restricted areas.
- Verify cash handling accuracy, including drawer counts and reconciliations.
- Complete all required shift paperwork and reports accurately.

Team Supervision & Support:
- Assist staff with daily tasks and provide operational support during busy times.
- Ensure adequate coverage for breaks and high-traffic periods.
- Encourage teamwork and clear communication between departments.
- Promote a safe, positive, and customer-focused work environment across all shifts.

Customer Service & Safety:
- Model outstanding customer service and problem-solving.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions or complaints.
- Maintain awareness of store activity to ensure a safe shopping experience for all customers and employees.
- Enforce safety and loss prevention protocols during all shifts.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous retail or grocery experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Cash handling and reconciliation experience.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Dependable and punctual, with flexibility to work various shifts.
- Ability to read at 20/20 vision, natural or corrected, to read detailed labels and POS instructions.

Schedule & Availability:
- Must be available to work opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, with hours ranging from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Flexibility is essential to meet store and staffing needs.
