About the Role:Â The full-time Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare services. This position is responsible for providing direct support to healthcare professionals, facilitating patient care, and maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment. The Medical Assistant will assist in various clinical tasks, including taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, this role involves administrative duties such as answering phones and managing patient records, which are essential for effective communication and patient flow. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes significantly to the overall patient experience and the quality of care provided across DPHS sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a medical assistant training program.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel between organizational sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent.
- Experience in a clinical setting, preferably serving vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Bilingual proficiency to assist a diverse patient population (English/Spanish)
Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens for laboratory testing.
- Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment.
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage patient inquiries.
Skills:Â The required skills for this position, such as medical assisting and phlebotomy, are utilized daily to ensure that patients receive timely and accurate care. Proficiency in taking vital signs is essential for monitoring patient health and assisting healthcare providers in making informed decisions. Knowledge of sterilization techniques is critical for maintaining a safe clinical environment and preventing infections. Additionally, strong communication skills are necessary for effectively answering phones and addressing patient inquiries, which helps to create a welcoming atmosphere.
