The Commercial Pipe Fitter Apprentice is responsible for assembling and installing pipe systems, pipe supports, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading, and welding. Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications using hand and power tools. Inspect work sites for obstructions and ensures that holes will not cause structural weakness. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, and/or other methods. Remain actively engaged with their assigned mechanic in order to observe and learn new skills. Remain open to constructive criticism as well as pursuing career development through trade school, certifications, etc. QualificationsWhat You’ll Bring: High school diploma or GED is required. Prior experience working as a Pipe Fitter Helper or general mechanical construction is preferred. Currently owns a personal set of tools required for the trade. Ability to read and use blueprints. Safety and customer service oriented. Ability to clearly communicate with everyone on the job site including Superintendents, Foremen, Mechanics, other Tradesmen, etc. Able to work irregular and extended hours as dictated by current projects. Fluent English verbal and written skills are required. Driving Requirements Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license. Must have positive points on state driving record. Must be at least 21 years of age unless company approval is granted. Must not have had a DUI, DWI, or reckless driving conviction in the last five years. All driving records are run as part of our pre-employment process and reviewed at the discretion of the Safety Team.
