Self-Perform Group Concrete/Formwork and Framing Superintendent

This position involves operating a business within the business. The Self-perform Group provides fast and efficient carve out work including concrete and wood framing for Overaa projects. The SPG CFF Superintendent typically manages 3 – 5 projects at any given time, manages approx. 20 craft labor over these projects; relieving the Project Superintendent of managing Overaa’s self-performed work. Your “clients” are Overaa projects. You are trusted with autonomy to plan and execute the work in the most productive and efficient manner. The challenge is to complete concrete and/or wood framing within budgets provided by in-house estimators. The reward is earned in a portion of every manhour saved from the budget is paid as a bonus incentive.


The Self Perform Group Concrete/Formwork and Framing Superintendent (SPG CFFS) is a key member of the project management team. The SPG CFFS is the onsite manager of production for Self-Performed carve out work. They are the one person assigned to a project who is responsible for all aspects of field operations. They are a company representative to the project clients, construction managers, designers and inspectors and must establish a productive relationship with these and Overaa Construction project stakeholders. They must have the ability and leadership to construct a profitable smooth-running operation from the award stage to completion. The SPG CFFS is the highest-ranking representative with ultimate responsibility for the Self-Perform Group’s portion of the work.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise construction activities specific to carve-out self-perform work.
  • Actively seek out direct work with customers in need of concrete and/or framing project work both internally and externally when appropriate.
  • Estimate labor, material, and equipment for carve out work in collaboration with a company estimator.
  • Validate budget from the PM’s for carve out work. Given the carve out budget, it is the intent that SPG can meet or beat that budget.
  • Recognize extra work outside of the carve out work defined by the Overaa PM and notifies them timely of the cause and extent of the extra work. Provides records daily and tracks separately any extra work that is outside of the initial carve out scope.
  • Maintain a steady workload to keep a 20-person crew working year-round.
  • Submit bi-weekly staffing schedule to the General Superintendent for use in staffing future projects.
  • Direct all field personnel they are supervising to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, and with quality workmanship according to plans and specifications.
  • Schedule Self-Perform work and assist the Overaa PM with the input of that self-perform schedule into the Project 



Master Schedule

  • Proactively and collaboratively work to solve problems.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with Overaa personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, coworkers and project stakeholders including Owners and Designers.
  • Work collaboratively with Overaa’s Productivity Manager and Estimator to establish Production goals based on the estimate and manage those established goals.
  • Report weekly progress and forecast hours to complete. Identify and implement changes if necessary to positively influence the project’s outcome.
  • Work collaboratively with and direct Overaa’s detailers to ensure we create all formwork detailing prior to project start so SPG crews are efficient in the field
  • Manage self-perform activities and track productivity milestones.
  • Obtain competitive pricing on all materials. Buyout materials and schedule inspections.
  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards.
  • Ensure all company employees, contractors and site personnel adhere to company safety policies.
  • Create a site logistics plan and maintain an organized, clean, safe job site environment.
  • Complete all Overaa company safety training as required.

  • On occasions may find work directly from outside customers.



Overall Responsibilities and Authority

  • Reports to the General Superintendent for personnel and production matters.
  • Meets bi-monthly with COO, General Superintendent and SPG Project engineer for budget/buyout/upcoming work/ production goal setup and monitoring.
  • Responsible for all SPG work including concrete carve out portions, wood framing packages, other assigned self-perform work and any independent or client-direct projects.
  • Meets with Company executives monthly in department meetings to give updates on SPG activities, provide production goal reporting, and overall metrics on success for SPG
  • Meets weekly with the Project Team on Production goal projections.
  • Responsible for weekly jobsite visits to assure Quality control is being followed.
  • Responsible for enforcing a jobsite safety program at each site.
  • Responsible for determining the most efficient and productive method(s) for sequencing work, meeting production goals and schedule milestones.
  • Responsible for directing, supervising, coaching and mentoring the SPG Project engineer(s), detailer(s), self-performing Foremen and field crews.
  • Keeps current P&L for SPG work, independent contracts and projects


Qualification

  • 7-10 years of relevant project experience in scheduling, ordering materials, field supervision, quality control, safety and production of all phases of construction.
  • Organized with a systematic approach to achieve accuracy, quality and efficiency.
  • Expertise in concrete and wood construction
  • Highly experienced in QA/QC best practices
  • Proven track record in a commercial construction environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage diverse personalities.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, and Word are required.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Viewpoint project manager software is a plus.



Physical Demands/Working Conditions

This position requires working in a physically demanding jobsite environment, frequently in an outdoor setting. Bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, and lifting are required. Ability to lift 40+ lbs. Driving required – must have valid driver’s license

The anticipated salary range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000 per year.
