Overview

We are seeking a qualified Traffic Supervisor to lead safe and efficient steel transportation and logistics operations. This role oversees drivers, shipping personnel, fleet maintenance, and DOT compliance while managing scheduling and routing. The position partners with leadership to drive cost savings, operational efficiency, and accurate recordkeeping through data-driven analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety, performance, and daily operations of the Richmond Traffic Team.
  • Schedule, dispatch, and route drivers for steel deliveries in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate with sales teams and customers to meet delivery needs and timelines.
  • Monitor driver performance, support reviews, and assist with disciplinary actions.
  • Manage fleet maintenance, inspections, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Maintain DOT compliance, including driver and equipment records.
  • Track fuel usage, tire inventory, and overall fleet efficiency.
  • Ensure proper utilization and compliance of third-party carriers.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives, including overtime reduction and operational improvements.
  • Support projects (e.g., pallet recycling) and maintain regular communication with drivers.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 4-year degree related to Logistics and Distribution and/or 3 years of prior fleet dispatch/management experience.
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures with multiple distribution centers.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required so that we meet customer expectations.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Skills:

  • Experience with Road-net, E-logs, Fleetmatics, and Geotab software a plus
  • Experience in flatbed operations a plus
  • Experience with INVEX, StelPlan (or other ERP/WMS platforms) and Roadnet a plus.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT compliance items
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of management and all colleagues.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work “off schedule” on occasion.
  • Highly organized individual with a commitment to consistent attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to assume additional responsibilities and accommodate customer requests.
  • Ability to work independently, often under pressure/situations within a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to build business relationships and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
