LightWorks Counseling & Wellness by Shineforth is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to help shape and grow an integrated outpatient mental health program rooted in a 125-year legacy of impact.

This outpatient program represents an important evolution in our continuum of care — expanding upstream access to therapy and psychiatric services that strengthen resilience and promote healthier long-term outcomes through whole-person, integrated care.

Currently in its growth phase, this program offers providers the opportunity to help build and shape a multidisciplinary service line, including therapy, medication management, diagnostic evaluations, and specialty clinical services.

What We Do

LightWorks Counseling & Wellness offers:

  • Individual Therapy (Children, Teens, Young Adults, Parents & Caregivers)
  • Family Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy

LightWorks Counseling and Wellness provides a blend of in-person and telehealth services. With the addition of a PMHP, we will expand our services to include psychiatric evaluations and medication management. Our care model emphasizes collaboration between therapists, psychiatric providers, caregivers, and community partners to support sustainable, long-term wellness.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, young adults and their caregivers
  • Diagnose mental health conditions and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Prescribe and manage medications in alignment with evidence-based practices
  • Provide ongoing medication management and follow-up care
  • Collaborate with outpatient therapists to ensure coordinated, integrated collaborative care and treatment planning  
  • Educate clients and caregivers about diagnoses, medications, risks/benefits, and treatment options
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Respond to urgent psychiatric needs in alignment with agency protocols

We serve a diverse client base and maintain a balanced payor mix, including Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay. Accessibility and sustainability are central to our care model.

Who We Need

Someone who’s more than board-certified — you’re invested.

We’re seeking a PMHNP who is:

  • Licensed in Virginia as a PMHNP
  • Current ANCC certification
  • Master’s degree or higher from a PMHNP program
  • Prescriptive authority in Virginia
  • Must have completed MSN and passed the board examination  
  • Must provide a collaborating MD if full practice autonomy has not been obtained
  • Experience in child and adolescent psychiatry preferred
  • Skilled in evidence-based prescribing practices
  • Thoughtful and measured in medication management, prioritizing least restrictive and appropriate interventions
  • Comfortable collaborating within a multidisciplinary outpatient team
  • Strong in documentation and technology
  • Growth-oriented and energized by helping launch and expand a new program
  • Committed to culturally responsive, equitable care

Schedule & Expectations

  • Part-time opportunity (minimum 2 days per week in person, flexible scheduling)
  • Balanced caseload with focus on sustainable, high-quality care
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems required
