Instrumentum is hiring an Environmental Services Technician for our reprocessing center in Richmond, Virginia. $20.00–$24.00 per hour. Full-time, with benefits. High school diploma preferred, not required.

No patient rooms. No discharge board.

If you have worked EVS in a hospital, you know the hard part was never the cleaning. It was the discharge board, the isolation precautions, and the family in the hallway asking you a question you are not allowed to answer.

This is a facility, not a floor. Instrumentum reprocesses surgical instruments for hospitals and surgery centers, and this role keeps that facility clean, stocked, and compliant. You work a prescribed schedule, area by area. There are no patients here. The pace is real — this is a production environment — but the route is yours to run.

What you will do

•    Clean assigned work areas on a prescribed schedule, area by area, rather than reacting to call-ins all shift

•    Complete housekeeping logs daily

•    Use only approved chemical solutions, following written procedures and dilution requirements

•    Keep janitorial supplies stocked and your work area and storage room clean and orderly

•    Follow Instrumentum’s Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions on every task

•    Hold the cleanliness standard that sterile processing operations depend on

What you need

•    One to two years of housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience

•    Ability to read, follow, and complete written procedures and logs

•    Reliability and punctuality — on a scheduled route, the schedule is the job

•    Comfort working independently for most of your shift

What we would like to see

•    Experience in a healthcare, laboratory, or commercial facility environment

•    Floor care experience — scrubbing, buffing, burnishing, stripping, and waxing

•    Familiarity with chemical dilution, Safety Data Sheets, and PPE requirements

•    Experience handling regulated medical waste or biohazardous materials

•    Cleanroom or controlled-environment cleaning experience

•    High school diploma or equivalent

Who does well here

People who run their route the same way whether or not anyone is watching. Who notice the thing that is out of place. Who understand that in a building where surgical instruments are sterilized, clean is not cosmetic — it is part of why those instruments come out safe.

This is work most people only notice when it has not been done. We notice.

The physical side of the job

This is a production environment, and not all of it is indoors. We would rather you know that now than find out in week two.

•    On your feet and walking for most of your shift

•    Frequent lifting up to 20 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50

•    Extensive reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling

•    Ladder work, and some work in rooftop and other outdoor areas

•    Occasional work in confined spaces

•    Routine exposure to biohazardous materials and strong chemical odors, with PPE worn for extended periods

•    Moderate noise. Climate-controlled indoors, uncontrolled outdoors

Pay and benefits

•    $20.00–$24.00 per hour

•    Medical, dental, and vision insurance, effective the first of the month after your start date

•    Company-paid life insurance, plus short-term and long-term disability

•    Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

•    401(k) with company match — you are eligible from your first day

•    Paid time off that starts accruing on day one, beginning at 10 days and increasing with tenure

•    9 paid holidays

•    Employee Assistance Program

•    Paid every two weeks

•    Structured training, with a defined path from Technician to Facilities Coordinator

Schedule and location

Full-time, on-site. We will confirm your schedule during the interview.
